    '67 Shim Tape

I see that in the JG, before the body was attached to the chassis, there were shims taped to the chassis at the body mount locations. I guess that
Bud Weizer (the St. Louis line guy) broke the tape to get the shims so that they could be used in the attachment process. I'm not sure what to make of that info for judging purposes. Am I suppose to put some torn tape at those locations? If so, can someone tell me what to do. Alternatively, is that even something that a National judge would look for?

    Thanks.

    Tony:

The shims were actually taped in place, on the mount locations on the frame. Special 2" wide tape was used. This tape is available at most Corvette parts houses. Corvette Central, Quanta, LI Corvette Supply, Zip, and others should have it.

Joe: I assume that's what it looked like before the shims were removed from the tape. Any idea what it would have looked like originally after the shims were torn off the tape?

          Tony,

The large shim was placed on the body mount and the smaller shims were stacked on top of it. The plain masking tape was used to to keep the shims from falling off the body mount. I assume the tape was wrapped over the large shim and all the thin smaller one's. I am not sure if this answers your question or not. Just though I would add this little bit. Terry

            Tony -

The shims weren't "removed from the tape" at all; the cushion was placed on the frame bracket, the required shims were stacked on top of the cushion, a piece of tape was then wrapped over the shims to keep them from falling off, and the body was dropped and the bolts were driven. The piece of tape on top of the shim stack was trapped between the shims and the underbody, and the "tails" of tape on both sides flapped in the breeze and eventually disappeared.
