    C3 Spare Tire Tub

The spare tire carrier on my '70 is in excellent condition but has been painted black. Is there a safe way to remove the paint without harming the fiberglass finish, ie. lacquer thinner?
    Thanks in advance.

    Removing paint from fiberglass

    Jim,

I've used both lacquer thinner and acetone to clean paint off the underbody of my '66 and off my spare tire tub. There is no indication that either solvent damages the fiberglass.

Use Berkible B-101 Gum Cutter. It works great and leaves beautiful bare glass behind. I understand other Carb cleaners will also work but the B-101 is the best.

          Gary,
I reckon that what worked for my heater box paint removal should also work on the sprare tub paint. My response to an earlier post follows.

          ****************
I recently removed paint from my heater box. It was suggested that I use "Peeler" stripper that comes in aerosol cans and is available at auto parts stores, manufacturer is W.M Barr & Co. in Memphis. The body shop owner that suggested the product said to have a bucket of warm soapy water and a rag ready to wash the remover off after it has had a short repeat short time to work. Note that it works immediately upon application. As I used it, the product did not damage the fiber glass heater box cover at all and the box looks like new with a very smooth finish.

          *****************
          Best regards,
          Charlie

              Brian,

Where do we find Berkible B-101 Gum Cutter? Nothing from Google.

              Thanks,

              Mark

Mark, You may be able to locate it at Carlisle. It's made in PA. Check with your local parts store. It "MUST" be the white box version as the brown box stuff is for the treee hugging states and dosen't work like the lung elimitating version. I usually buy it by the case, just let me know if you'd like me to pick you up a case.
