66 Fuel Line from pump to Carb

I have a question pertaining to which fuel line I need between the fuel pump and carb. I have a 66 327/300 hp engine with air conditioning. It has the 40083 AC fuel pump and the 3367 Holley Carb list number and 4160 Carb Model number.

The 40083 fuel pump according to Noland Adams book was used on 300 HP cars with A/C and 350 HP cars. I looked in the Paragon book and they show one line for the 300 hp and one for the 350 hp. I purchased the one listed for the 300 HP car but it doesn't line up. I put it on the carb inlet and it is about and inch too long. The fuel line is about an inch below the fuel pump outlet. The 300 hp cars without A/C have a different fuel pump. I was thinking that the difference in the 2 lines was because the 350 hp has an aluminium intake and 300 is cast iron. Now I am wondering if the difference is due to the fuel pump.

Does anyone happen to know what the correct fuel line should be?

    Thanks, Rodney

I believe Nolands book is incorrect, there is no reference to a fuel pump anywhere in the AIM as being specific to C-60, and the fuel pump was St Louis installed. There was past discussion on this board about the change from the 4657 used in '65 to the 6440433 crimped style during the '66 model year. The change to the AIM is dated 10-27-66, however the actual change could have been some time on either side of the AIM change. So if you have and early builc car, the pump should be the 4657, same as '65 and a later build (December onward) would likely use the crimped style. The 40083 was strictly confined to the 350/365/375 hp engines.

      Rodney,

I have the same motor with C60 in my 66. The fuel line I got from Corvette Central worked fine but I did not know there could be a variation with the fuel pump. Tell me how to identify the fuel pump and I'll report back.

The fuel pump in mine appears to be the factory pump. It has the numbers 40083 on the flange that bolts to the block. My car was built Nov 26,65. I have all the repair receipts for this car from like 1968 onward and no mention of the fuel pump being changed out. Mine does have the AC cast on the top.

reproduction fuel lines are notoriously innacurate. The location of the outlet on 40083, 4657, and others including the crimped pumps are all at roughly the same height so if it is a height issue at the pump end I would either try another vendor or look at "cheating" the bends slightly on the top of the engine to get a fit.
