Can someone describe what this pan looks like. The corner reinforcements and where the drain plug is?

I'm not sure if mine is correct and I have not found a PN# yet.

Can anyone recommend a good reproduction or is the original style still avaible from GM?

It's a bit hard to describe what the pan looks like. However, all 1965-74 big block oil pans were, basically, of the same configuration. The Corvette big block oil pan was not used on any other chassis application. There was no part number stamped on any big block oil pan until VERY recently for the SERVICE oil pan.

The corner reinforcments were approximately 3/16" stamped steel that reinforced the 2 end holes on each side of each end of the pan (4 total). They were spot welded in place. The oil drain was located on the bottom rear surface of the pan and was off-set a bit to the left of the pan as viewed from the rear.

The 1965-67 oil pan had a hole in the center of the front oil pan seal surface. This was for the screw which retained the pan to the weld nut on the timing cover. The later oil pan had the hole, too, but it was unused.

The current SERVICE oil pan still available from GM is GM #14061359. This pan is very similar to the original pan used for your application except for a few features:

1) there are no corner reinforcements; these can be purchased in reproduction. There's no need to spot-weld them. The pan bolts will hold them in place just fine and no one will know the difference. The spot welded reinforcements is mainly a PRODUCTION assembly aid;

2) there is no hole in the front oil pan seal surface. One can be added quite easily.

The current SERVICE oil pan is GM #14091356 and NOT 14061356

Thanks Joe I really appreciate it. Looks like mine maybe correct. The drain plug is in the rear of the pan rather than the side and it does have the the hole under the timing chain cover. I need to check on the corner reinforcements

I've seen several on Ebay and catalogs claiming to be like original but the drain plug was in the side of the pan not the rear. Thus the confusion

If you're looking on e bay, a lot of sellers try to pawn off a truck pan as a Corvette pan. You need to see the inside of the pan. Only the Corvette pan has the correct baffel with the swinging door. Also, if you buy the pan from GM, it includes the windage tray as well. Paragon sells the corner reinforcements if you need them.

Most big block oil pans have the same GENERAL configuration. However, the ones with the side oil drain are for other chassis applications and NOT Corvette. No Corvette big block oil pan ever had a side oil drain.
