Early Chev Steel Valve Covers

I have some old staggered hole steel valve covers which Chevrolet stamped on top. Regarding the temperature sending wire clips - some have the clips bent back over the spot weld and others are straight down pointing toward the engine block. Which is correct or would they both have been used? Thanks.

Clips for the temp sending wire were U-shaped to 'cradle' the temp sending wire above the intake snugged to the valve cover
