C2 - '68 427/390 BB Fuel Pump

All,

Can anyone provide me with the correct model # fuel pump for a '68 427/390 BB.
I was told the correct model # is 40659. What I have is 39M 40482. Which is correct? What does the 39M stand for?

Is there NOS of these units available? Are there restored units available? If so, where can I find them & how much should I expect to pay?

The AC type 40659 was the pump originally used in PRODUCTION for your application. Once-upon-a-time, it was available in SERVICE from GM under GM #6417338. That pump was discontinued years ago from the GM parts system, although it lingered on for quite awhile in the Delco parts system. In any event, the pump available from GM and Delco for the past 25+ years for your application has been the AC type 40482 also known as 6416741. While not "correct" for your application, the 40482 is 100% functional and the GM/Delco catalogued replacement pump.

Dr. Rebuild may still have some NOS correct, original AC type 40659 pumps available. It won't be cheap, but if exact, correct configuration is what you seek, one has to stand ready to pay the price.

If the "good doctor" has "run dry" on this item, then you should be able to get one from Paul Baker of Goat Hill Classics. I don't know what the "genesis" is of these pumps and it's been reported that delivery can sometimes be a problem here, so you might want to try the doctor first. If he has them, you'll have it promptly and with certainty.
