    Bird cage rust proofing

I have the windshield, dash and all interior components removed from my 63 SWC. I would like to spray a rust inhibitor into the openings on the cage. What is the recommend product and where can it be purchased?

    Thanks!

Just a thougt but if the 40 year old car doesn't have bird cage damage now. Most likely it won't take the exposure to the elements that the first 40 years gave, why would you need to protect the bird cage?

I would think any good primer or maybe even some of that icky POR 15 stuff sprayed into the openings using a pump up deck sprayer would do.

When it all drys, shoot what you can see with a top coat of the green zinc chromate from a rattle can to make it all look "factory" again.

      good luck,

Tracy, it was good to meet you at Park City.

I agree with you on the POR15. I applied it inside my frame rails...I used an undercoating spray gun with an improvised extension wand to spray it inside all the openings. POR15 claims to stop existing rust and prevent new rust. Inside the bird cage or frame are good applications because it's not exposed to UV light.

I would make one suggestion: Be sure you put down some paper to catch the drips until the POR15 is completely cured...If it hardens on your garage floor, the only way you'll get it off is to break the concrete skin.

          Hi there Chuckster!

It was a pleasure meeting you too. I thought the paint session was great.

I think I will be doing something like you suggest to my frame when my body comes back off. Things like birdcage and frames are such commodities these days. It really seems prudent for a little overkill where there is any future possibility for rust. I think it's common for these to rust from the inside out anyway.

If what you say about the POR 15 and Concrete is true, I better just roll everything out onto my gravel approach. The way I work there will be more on myself and surrounding environment than the intended target.

          take care!
