Re: C-3 1970 coupe wheel paint color
The front side of 70 rally wheels is a greenish silver. The back side is semi-gloss or satin black. The reason for this is the wheels were received from the supplier in standard GM black primer...The assembly plant then painted only the front side without masking the holes...There may be incidental silver overspray on the back side of the wheel (ps...Don't TRY to make overspray on the backside, just let it happen).
I don't know the status on the green silver paint at this point...it has been discontinued; maybe it's been brought back. Check with Quanta restoration products.- Top

The "argent silver" paint used for Corvette rally wheels varied quite a bit in "shade" and "hue" over the 1967 to 1982 period that it was used. However, I know exactly the shade that you are referring to since my 1969 wheels were originally that variant, too. It's a dark silver metallic and unlike the "normal" "argent silver" available from most reproduction sources. It did have the "greenish hue", too, as does most of the argent silver paint used from 1968 to 1970. It's not available from any reproduction source that I know of. You will have to have it custom-mixed using an existing paint sample for a "reference source". I plan to do this at some point from the one original wheel that I still have which I did not repaint with the "normal", much lighter "argent silver". I think that it will probably be impossible, though, to also have it custom-mixed so that the very light "greenish hue" is also reproduced.
Although Quanta has discontinued the "greenish hue" argent silver, such paint is still available from OEM Paints. However, as far as I know, the OEM paint offering is the much lighter, "normal" argent silver. I know, for sure, that the Quanta paint, when it was available, was the much lighter shade since that's what I used to repaint my four road wheels and I noted the difference at that time. The Quanta paint VERY accurately reproduced the "greenish hue", though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
