Wheel Balancing Weights

According to the JG for 63-64 the wheels should be balanced from the inside using US measure only. Most weights I see today have both US and metric on them. Can someone recommend where to get correct weights if such a thing exists?

ps: I do not know what weights I need yet as I am cleaning up the wheels and need to have the tires remounted.

old time gas stations often save their used wieghts. junkyards another good source. good hunting. mike

Joe,

There was an excellent article in the restorer earlier this year on the correct markings. There was also a follow up article in the last one identifing one more style.

Mike suggestion is a good one. Find an old gas station in a small farming community off the beaten path and you can usually find what your after.

Wheel Balancing Weights

I recommend reading my article in the Corvette Restorer before you purchase any weights. The article is from the last year sometime. Note that some folks might try to grind off the metric designation and pass off new weights for old, so don't be tricked. Read the article first and then you'll know what to look for.

Every few months some correct vintage or NOS weights (MICRO or Perfect Equip Co.) come up for auction on e-bay. I've also found some correct MICRO weights at my local Pick-Your_Part wrecking yard. Sometimes they won't even charge you for 2 or 3 weights since they tend not to be listed on their price list for parts.

I haven't seen the weights that Paragon sells, so I can't comment on their correctness.

Thanks for the tips guys. I missed them in the PAragon catalog. After blasting and painting the wheels and putting the tires back on I'll have them balanced to determine what weights are needed then order.

The ones from paragon have the micro logo. However, I think they have both standard and metric measurements.
