My 30K mile, '98 6sp vert. has an air conditioning problem----it is blowing cold on the passenger side only? One service person has suggested that this may be caused by a failing compressor. Any input? Thanks, g.

Re: '98 a/c question
George, 98s are a little out of our specialty, but this one looks like a no-brainer: COMPRESSOR???!!!...What did this genius think is making it blow cold on the passenger side?
You must have a duct distribution valve malfunction, or a temperature regulator control problem. Find yourself a REAL Corvette technician with good experience on C5s. What town do you live in?...Someone here might have a service tech suggestion.- Top

Re: '98 a/c question
Service manuals are full of information in maintaining all Corvettes. The internet has helped a lot, but sometimes having a service manual for your car is very helpful for discovering how to repair problems. I know how to work on my 68 and 70 having owned them for over 35 years without much reference to my well used manuals, but working on the 85 and especially the 96, I will be referencing the service manuals.- Top

Re: '98 a/c question
George,
It makes a big difference as to whether you have manual or dual-zone a/c. Referring to my 1997 Service Manuals which should be very similar if not the same as 98, there is a five page long checklist related to improper airflow on a DUAL-ZONE system. A one page section on 'L/H temperature does not change' another page on 'R/H temperature does not change' and about three pages on 'Incorrect outlet air flow'. They all require considerable dextarity with a digital voltmeter and wiring diagrams (as it makes reference to various circiuts within the system. I highly recommend a visit to your Chevrolet dealer. If you are determined to delve into this yourself, contact me offline and I'll try to get relevant material to you.
