    L46 valve covers

I just got the correct valve covers for my 1969 350/350. Some books show the cover with the crossed flags emblem on the left side and the oil fill on the right, and some vice versa. Which is correct?

    Thanks

Oil fill cap cover is on the side with the dipstick. May not be 100% that way on all applications. Lyle

Thanks guys. I thought that was right but in Vette Vues the first 1969 L46 engine they show has the cross flags on the left side. A few pages later they show an L46 with air conditioning which has that valve cover on the right. I guess the first one is incorrect.

I cannot say for sure on a car with air, mine has no air.Mine is all original no air, and all of them that I have looked at with or without air have been oil filler on the left and flags on the right.Maybe someone with an air car can shed some light on the subject. The judging manual states that it is this way also. But it say's nothing about cars with air.I think it is the same either way. I have an AC 69 with the L46 and the oil filler is on the drivers side and cross-flag emblem is on the pass side.

If the covers are installed backwards (oil fill on the passenger side) on an A/C car, you can't remove the oil fill cap due to interference with the compressor bracket.

                Mike-----

All 1969 Corvettes with L-46 had the valve cover emblem on the right (passenger) side of the engine. The oil filler was on the left (driver) side cover.

By the way, original 1969 L-46 covers (as well as 1969 Camaro Z-28 which used the same covers) had NO internal oil drippers and were unpolished, as-cast finish.

Thanks Joe, the ones I bought from GM do have drippers. They're #474207 and 474208. I believe they were the service only covers. I sometimes see the originals (#3932415 & 16) on Ebay, but rarely in good shape.

                    Mike -

The 1969-only production covers (for both Corvette and Camaro Z/28) didn't have drippers, but they were added to the molds for 1970 production.
