    Differential Covers...Are the marked?

Are the C3 diffeerential covers stamped? The restoration guide make no mention of it.

    Thanks!

    Re: Differential Covers...Are the marked?

There is no stamped identification on the rear cover - just the usual raised casting number. The only stampings (ratio and assembly date) are on the bottom flange of the differential housing, which bolts to the front of the cover.

Top of diff carriers also stamped ....

.... at least '64 thru '65 examples I've seen. But just the ratio code, or part thereof. Example #1: '64 3.70 posi pumpkin bottom flange stamp CD 1_3_64; top (on forward slope) C, then D (D lower and to the right, obviously each struck separately). Example #2: '65 3.70 posi; bottom flange stamp FA 7_15_65; top (on 1-1/8" wide flange) "FA". Example #3: '65 4.11 posi; bottom flange AP 9_17_64; top flange, just "P" (not AP). If memory serves, a '67 AU diff that I had also was stamped "AU" on the top.
