    "CS" engine code?

I am looking at a Chevrolet engine horsepower/torque graph in 1956
that refers to a "CS" suffix code engine. My 1956 and 1957 Chevrolet Parts Book do not carry ANY suffix codes; the 1958 book shows "CR" as a 2 X 4 225HP Corvette motor with a 3 speed in 1956 and does NOT show a "CS". Could "CS" have been the designation for a little known 225HP engine option for the regular passenger car that Chevrolet "didn't want to talk about"? Any help?

1956 Passenger Car 265 with Dual Fours = GS. The engine was availible in 150, 210 and Bel Air series Chevies.

Thanks, Bob. Can I ask where you found

that information? It gets to be interesting, because the test graph is for the first replacement engine that was going into Dr. Dick Thompson's '56 Corvette. Seems to be further proof of "no difference" between Corvette and Chevrolet motors, at least in the high HP versions.

            I like that one, Wayne!

Of course, how many people here actually know what that was?

As far as I know the 225 hp Passenger car engine is the same as the 225 Vette engine. I don't think the 240 hp engine was in the passenger car. The cars used a different air cleaner and valve covers than the Vette.

Email me and I will scan the specs and send them back.

                the 56 245 HP engine

with the 2x4 carbs with the 077 cam was in full size cars back in 56. several of my friends had them and i also had the same setup in my 55 chevy bel-air. the air cleaner that came on the sedans was a triangular shaped oil bath type. everybody went out and bought the 2 little aluminum ones from the corvette for their sedans. i bet those old oil bath ones would bring big bucks on e bay today
