    1960 Vette Restoration

vette restoration mike goen i just purchased my first corvette restoration a i have a good bit of mechanical experience but the body and chasis will be a learning experience for me i hope to get some helpe as needed from this discussion board my intent is a full body off restoration any hints or tips as i am just getting started are welcome at the moment i have a couple questions a restorer i talked to in az told me that the wheel wells had been radiused but that it was easy to fix that's a new term to me what does it mean he also suggested that i should do all the body work before i took it off the frame that seems backward to me as it seems that any risk of banging up the body would be as it goes off on the frame comments thanks mike

re vette restoration mark lovejoy mike first get the assembly manual and tech reference both an absolute necessity second carefully remove all nuts and bolts bag and tag everything reusing the bolts in their correct location is very important and will save you a ton of money later whether you do the bodywork first not final painting or not seems your preference i did my ' body after the chassis was done and cleaning up the frame after the fact was a pain but not too bad good luck mark lovejoy ncrs ' rpo d

re vette restoration p terrry congrats on the new acquisition you have come to the right place for good advice on how to do your restoration you will get lots of advice on the proper things to do with your restoration my advice is to get every piece of information you can on the car history restoration process and technical data get the assemply manual ncrs technical guide nolan adams' complete restoration and technical guide vol and talk to all the experts you can find then study study study don't start anything on the car until you are confident that you know processes you plan to take in the restoration then document everything you do so you can duplicate the process in reassemble i note every nut bolt and part i remove in the assembly manual tagging and bagging helps a lot as previously mentioned as far as doing the body work before removal from the chassis if you have major body work to do such as fender replacement it's best to leave the body in place then things align a lot better good luck in you project and keep us posted on the progress

re vette restoration mike goen thanks for the response and the encouragement both responses i have received so far recommend the assembly manual and nolan adams' complete restoration and technical guide vol i received teh assembly manual in the deal and am convinced that i need to by the technical guide the car's body and frame are straight undamaged it is primered but it was done several years ago and the car has set for about ten years the primer is all going to have to come off the wheel wells have been radiused and that will have to be restored i'm thinking of having the body done professionally and doing everything else myself unfortunately a lot of the original nuts and bolts are mia as someone two or three owners back had started disassembling for restoration and didn't keep what he removed but i have been bagging and marking what i take off a lot of what i have will have to be replaced as it is rusted beyond salvage it currently has a out of a vette i'm thinking of looking for a correct to put in it i suspect that might help the finished value of the car i have been studying for a long time and it is a continuing process thanks again mike
