    Upside Down Front Springs

I think the front springs on my '74 may have been installed upside down when the car was restored 14 years ago. When looking at the springs at ground level from the front of the car, with all four wheels on the ground, I can see 5 coils in whole or partly. Coil 1 is the first coil on the bottom I can see and coil 5 is the top coil visable. There is about one inch between coils 3 to 4 and 4 to 5. Between coils 2 to 3 there is about 3/8 inch and between coils 1 and 2 only about 1/8 inch.

Is this proof enough or is there another way to check this out without taking the springs out of the car?

    Thanks, Bill

    Re: Upside Down Front Springs

    Bill,

I'm currently restoring a 75 convertible and just cleaned up the front springs last night. I do know the coils are closer together at one end. According to the AIM that is the end that should be in the tower, or "up" for another way to describe it. I don't know how they will look installed but I will be installing them today and can let you know later if you'd like.

If you can, look up into the tower and see how close together the coils are. If they are spaced further apart than the coils at the lower control arm then I'd say they were installed incorrectly (upside down).

    Good luck.

Eric, yes please let me know what you find out when your springs are installed. I can not seem to get a good view of the top coils on my car.

      Thanks, Bill
