I have cleaned the original red seatbelt fabric for my '62. I used a long soak in Simple Green, careful scrubbing and then a gentle cycle in cold water with a color fast detergent, followed by air drying. There is some obvious fading which I knew was present, prior to cleaning. Except for some rust spots, which didn't come out, they cleaned up fairly well. I don't plan to reuse the fabric but I wanted to use it for an accurate color sample. I have some red NOS 4 panel nylon fabric and Tracy Crisler has perfected a dying process. He can adjust the tint and duplicate the correct color, providing he has a sample to work from. The problem is I am not sure the color is accurate. It seems too orange/red and also perhaps a bit too light. I'd like to have the cleaned original material "judged" for color before sending it out to Tracy.
Mike Ernst was recommended to me as the guy to ask. Mike, if you are reading this, can you help? I can mail the original material for a visual inspection. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help with this.
