I will be looking at a 60 corvette tomorrow night and would like to determine if the interior is orignal or some repo installed. He said over the years 2 so-called experts looked at it 2 separate times and they both told him different stories. Are there some tell-tale items to look for on say the door panels? I would guess that the carpet is the most likely candidate to have been replaced. Thanks for the help.

Re: Determining 1960 original interior?
You will know a lot by looking at the car, knowing the conditions the car has been in over the last 45 years (stored in barn, driven daily, covered in family garage, etc.), and judging a lot on your own.
For an original interior to last, miles would have to be low, storage would have to be somewhat ideal (not in the woods on the back 40), and so on.
Look at the miles on the car, then to areas where wear should occur to match that mileage.
For example, if there is 45,000 miles, then the area under the gas pedal and where your left would would be should have more wear than anywhere else. It wouldn't be worn out, but should show some wear compared to the rest.
Look for the door arm rests to have the edges peeling up or out.
Door panels should not have the hard plastic backing plates, like some repros have hard black plastic backs. You need a light and mirror in the door to see probably without taking them off.- Top
