Joe,
Everybody is on there way to or in Park City. You'd be knocking their socks off with these pictures. Keep them coming, the Corvette assembly line was sure a whole breed of its own. By the way perfect size on the photos great clarity, nice detail.

Re: Kevin
Kevin..I ran across some really great Cobra factory photos and they inspired me to post these Corvette factory photo's.
I hope these pictures inspire others to do the same...if that is okay with the members and John Waggoner.
This is a tech board..but..I find the history facsinating and hope others do as well.
If more photo's and documents were posted it would lead to more information. It amazes me that going back and reviewing pictures results in finding more details.

Re: St.Louis Plant...Your 64?
Joe,
The photo is of the new building extension before it was completed and opened for workers usage. The photographer was standing in a location that his back was facing Natural Bridge road. He was between the area where the cars came off the Chassis Line and the Paint Repair Line. As you see the 3 Corvettes lined up they are pointing to the beginning of the Paint Repair line and the scaffold in the background would become the Final Repair Area.
I can see the AC Recharging cabinet on the far wall as you look past the left most pillar. The stairs to the right led up to a overhead bathroom area. You will noticed the creeper leaning against the left most pillar? We only had 2 lifts in Repair at that point, that were out of the picture to the left, and everybody had to use creepers to work under the cars. I was using one when I almost got tire track across my legs. People driving the cars just could not see very well. The seats were not put into the cars until they ran down the Final Trim Line so we drove them sitting on the door sill with the door open and holding onto it for support.
As you are looking at the cars you see several stripped lines. They were to become, in later years, the work bays for brake work. We would have lifts installed and brake bleeding machines, but it was not in place during this expansion.
Thanks for the memories. It was good to see that old plant that clean and new.- Top
