cc and lectric limited have correct reading temp guages but they read about 20 degrees hot. chevy deallers have one but it really reads off and would require resistors. cosmetically i am not sure how the aftermarket ones compare when you get to markings and etc.

probably you should be most concerned about how it is going to read the temp, when locatating a source

        Jimmy,
I believe Mary Jo has originals for $40 a piece. www.vettegal.com

Jimmy, I bought a nos temp sending unit for my 61, paid a lot for it and the needle is burried on the temp gauge.I would go for what ever is accurate.

I recently purchased one from Doc Rebuild. The temp guage read 220 after it ran for awhile. Reinstalled the old one, it went back to 180.

Exactly what happened with the new one I bought from C Central. And most places won't let you return these.

If you have a junk yard nearby. Look in any GM car from 56 to 67 and pull the temp sending unit from the car. Later model will have the pin type, which does not work for the earlier cars. The junk yard may charge you $1-2.00 a piece. Some of these sending units have bottoms which have different configurations, but this portion is inside the intake and cannot be seen. The different configuration does not affect the performance. Cadillacs have them near the front and hidden under the radiator hose.

The original style have the "AC Made in USA" stamped printing upside down when looking at the unit in the upright position.

These will give you the correct temperature reading and will also pass judging.

Bead blast it and wire wheel buff it and then lightly rub it with fine steel wool. It will look like new.
