    Rear Diff Rust Removal

Hi Guys! I just picked up an original rear diff cover for my '65. The interior surface is pretty rusty. I'm a little reluctant to media blast, as it will be hard to get the residual media out of every crevice. I have glass, sand, and walnut shell media. I would think walnut shells would provide the least risk, but it's not that effective with rust removal. Is there much risk in using media or leaving the interior rusty? Suggestions?

    Thanks!

Don - there is really no issue with glass beading the cover......I have done it many times. I just completely flush in solvent 140 afterwords....if you don't have a parts washer, just take it to your local machine shop and have it jet sprayed there. They bead blast engine parts constantly, and as long as you are thorough.......no issues at all.... Craig

For items like this, I just drop them off at the local engine machine shop and have them shot blast them. They come back clean and rust free for a nominal cost.

i'd throw it in the glass beading cabnet, blast it, remove it, saturate it with lacq. thinner and blow it off with air a couple times. done it many times and bearings still living. mike

Just get a jar of Naval Jelly and strip it totally clean at home in about an hour. Piece of cake.
