Re: Server needs a Frame Off

Speeds in gears at 6500 in my L-76 SWC with CR trans and 3.08 axle are 76, 102, 127 and 150+ in fourth. I've seen redline in the first three gears many times, but top speed only a couple.

It's not much of a drag racer, but I never lost a street race on an empty freeway late at night - back when I used to do those kind of things!

      Re: How Fast

"In fact, it was stable this afternoon at over 100 - thanks to new suspension and shocks"

It's stable because it weighs 45,000 pounds.

Re: Where are all the stories? How fast have YOU g

I think I've told this story before, but back in 1970 when I was a grad student at the U. of Wisconsin Engine Reseach Center I was visiting a buddy in Milwaukee who also owned a SWC with L-76 and a 3.70 axle.

We were cruising down Wisconsin Avenue about midnight when a couple of guys in a 440 Charger challenged us to a race. My buddy didn't want to do it, so I said let's get my car. Told the Charger and he followed us back to my buddies place, we switched cars and then headed out to a freeway that went north. I forgot the number, but I recall it basically dead ended and exited where is became "under construction". It was deserted.

I told the Charger I wanted to run from 40 MPH, but he kept slowing down and finally punched it at about 20. I figured I would catch him by 100, but he held the lead. Finally past about 120 I began to catch him and we were dead even when I shifted into top gear at close to 130. It was a hot summer night and all the windows were open. He heard me shift as his lifters pumped up and I just walked away!

After we exited I wanted to give the guy a ration, but he just took off - couldn't take the heat!

          63SWC 300 3:36 125

I got hammered by that darned Server Error twice. Third time lucky??

I've tried this a couple of times. The first was a few months after the body-off restoration, and I clearly remember that all I could think of at that moment was torquing the suspension bolts (hmmm, did I get that one...?). This is what you think about when you are at speed and personally responsible for every nut and bolt! 125 is redline with the 300/3:36 rear-end. Have you ever noticed how the speedo and tach are exactly in synch in 4th with this combination? And yes, the front end wants to float around a bit - kinda' spooky.

            Re: How Fast

This was in 1982, late one night about 2am up I-5 past Bakerfield in my 1978 Silver Anniversary lowered to the ground with all the goodies that Guldstrand supplied at the time with the exception of the 5 link. I was running a 383 with NOS, hit 155 and called it good because my girlfriend kept slugging me in the arm! Not as fast as the Porsche 930 but still a rush.
