Proper paint overspray on '62 waterpump?

Well, I blew the gaskets out from under the flanges on the $33 Napa waterpump currently on the '62-340 again, and it's time to do this right. I've got a rebuilt '609 pump to go on and need to figure out how to paint it before installing it on the car. Specifically, what gets overspray and what doesn't? Do I install the overflow and heater hose fittings on it, tape off the mounting surfaces, and let 'er rip? Does the fan clutch mounting plate and WP shaft get taped off first? Thanks!

Water pump was on the block when the block was painted. Pulleys and fan were not. Timing chain behind the water pump was poorly painted because the water pump was in the way. It was painted without the fittings. They didn't bother to tape off anything, as far as I understand it.

They used a cardboard tube over the exposed pump shaft and fan mounting hub.
