    KO Wheel Weights

Anybody know how to identify original KO wheel weights? The AIM shows a different part number for the KO wheel weights vs. those for steel wheels. However, I can't find any info on the KO variety.

    Thanks!

    Re: KO Wheel Weights

Cast aluminum wheels have different flange thickness that stamped steel wheels, so the common weights used on steel wheels won't work. The KO weight's built in clamp is obviously different, and the difference is obvious when you look at examples side to side, but it's difficult to explain.

IIRC the factory only static balanced the wheel/tire assembly and placed the weights on the inside. I would recommend dynamic balancing using stick on weights on the extrmeme inside and outside of the drop section, so they are not visible on the outside flange and you won't mar either the inside or outside flange.

Of course, this would probably result in judging points loss.

          Don,

The wheel weight for KO wheels is shaped differently, as Duke mentioned. A correct original can be identifyed by the "AL" on the face side. I believe the 63-66 weight was the same for 67 with AL wheels.

            Michael,
Do you know where one could find some of those weights?
Many thanks and keep up the great posts.

              Dave,

That would be a tough item to find. I think all the sizes were discontinued at least 25 or 30 years ago. Also, it really wasn't the kind of item a dealer parts dept would stock so happening onto a set today isn't likely. I had several sets and this is the last of them.

By the way, all of the original sizes that were used on the assy line were not available in service. I don't remember exactly which were and which were not but if you look in the KO wheel section of the AIM, it will show all of the production line sizes and an old parts book will show the available sizes for service. I'll look them up later, if interested.

                Dave,
Earlier tonight I saw (3) 1oz. KO wheels weights listed on Ebay, 65-67 Corvette Parts & Accesories. I think the starting bid was $19.95.

Re: KO Wheel Weights - Thanks!

Thanks Duke and Michael for helping me verify correct KO wheel weights. The ebay auction was what prompted my inquiry. I was able to pick up 3 NOS KO wheel weights. This discussion board and those that freely contribute their time and expertise are an invaluable resource. Thanks again!
