    TH 400 linkage adjustment.

This is frustrating the hell out of me. The connection of the shifter cable to the TH 400 on my 70 has a pin to attach the cable and a nut which loosens the attachment on the shift mechanism on the trans. I can't get the car to have both park and 1st gear. How do you adjust this thing to make it work ?

Jeff I just looked at my 70 and my shifter cable comes from the shifer and fastens to the shift cable bracket that is bolted to the transmission pan perimiter bolts. The end of the shifter cable attached to this bracket just fits over a pin from the transmission shift bracket and is retained by a cotter key. The bracket that fits onto the transmission shift rod is retained by a nut and there is no adjustment between the bracket and the shifter cable from the cars shifter in the console. The other cable coming from the steering column that attaches to the transmission shift bracket may be giving you problems with its adjustment.
