Re: C-3 1970 coupe window compartment
Jack:
I believe most 1970's and the '68,'69's use a spring steel bracket that actually captures the front leading metal edge of the window storage tray, this bracket usually has a heavy solid metal bar with raised chrome lettering reading REAR WINDOW STORAGE. It is quite common for this thin steel bracket to get fatigued from use and break in two at a weak point.
1971 & '72 use a cylinder with button, just like the storage compartment in back.- Top

Re: C-3 1970 coupe window compartment
Terry my July 8th built original owner 70 coupe has the steel spring type clip with the cast piece. The cast piece is removable from the steel spring piece. The picture on page 33 of my 70's owner manual is nothing like what came in my car.- Top

Re: C-3 1970 coupe window compartment
Sounds like another revision in the upcoming TIM&JG for '70 thru '72's is in order.
Since the storage tray set-ups are so different for the two styles known to be in use during this time, it looks like a good subject to delve into further.- Top

C-3 1970 coupe window compartment - help needed
Warren,
More likely I should follow my own advice and check the TIM&JG. Since I don't have it with me at the moment, perhaps one of you would be kind enough to do that for me.Terry- Top

Terry:
The third edition states that approximately at 1971 serial # 12605 the latch mechanism has changed to a pushbutton style catch.
Nothing however is mentioned about the storage tray itself, I think that a description of the two styles and material differences might be warranted.- Top

See Warren, I had the number right -- I just missed the year. Old Timer's Disease is advancing.
I have no idea what is in the new 1970-1972 TIM&JG -- I haven't seen it yet. The person(s) who do know frequent this place, so they may see your suggestion regarding the styles and materials. Of course it is one thing to say the information should be included, and another to actually describe those differences. I certainly am not capable of doing that.Terry- Top

Right a description in as few a words as possible and we will try to include it in the manual. Send it to rebals5@aol.com The mechanical section is ready to go to press, the chassis within a couple of weeks. The interior is basically finished and so is the exterior.
Don't ask when it will be ready for sale. We have no idea when it will be compiled and printed.Dick Whittington- Top
