Patrick, I fixed my oil gauge with the same wd-40 trick and gently worked the wd-40 into it. I would bet that yours will free itself also. I about killed myself when i started the car to make sure it worked without opening the garage door. It took longer than io thought for the cold oil to reach the gauge. I may come to the meeting if i can find somebody to ride with from the detroit area

Re: Oil Gauge Repair
Just out of curiosity - the oil pressure gauge in my '67 big block seems to work all right. It is connected to the block by a whitish transparent plastic tube. The oil pressure is good, but there appears to be air spaces in the gauge line. Is this normal or am I being a paranoid neophyte? My gut reaction is that this is normal, since the air trapped in the line can't escape and probably has no great effect upon the measured oil pressure, but I've been off-base before...

Re: Oil Gauge Repair
Thanks, guys. I'm happy to see that I can trust my oil pressure gauge, and I've added the oil pressure line to the list of things I plan to buy Stateside this summer. The explanation to the baggage and customs inspectors should be interesting.- Top

Re: Oil Gauge Repair
Wayne,
You just answered a question I've had for sometime. I have both a SB '71 and a BB '69 and both have the "plastic" oil lines. Was working around the distributor on the '71 a few weeks ago, closed the hood and backed it out of the garage and when I got out, sure enough here was this "trail" of oil. Popped the hood and saw that plastic line had cracked. Made a heck of a mess. SO, I wondered if someone made an aftermarket braided or steel line. If they are suppose to be steel, then I'm amazed that BOTH of mine are plastic. Any idea of who makes the steel ones? I'll be looking in the catologs this evening!
Thanks, Don- Top

Oil Gauge Line
Don,
Of note, I believe that the "midyears" had metal lines, and with the "sharks" they changed to the plastic ones. So, I believe that both are correct in your case.
Most suppliers have metal lines for the midyears, should you wish to swap.
