    69 Corvette door handle

What is the best approach for removing the passenger side door handle in a 69 Corvette? I removed the door panel and put the glass in the up position. It has power windows. It still looks tricky to remove. The spring on the door handle has broken. Thanks in advance for any help.

I had a broken spring on my 69 drivers door.I got these stainless steel u shaped clips from Eklers and put them in both sides. You can't see them and the door handles pop right back up as they should.TAKES ABOUT 2 minutes to put them in. Tom

      Frank...

There are quite a few articles printed on this subject. One way is to purchase the stainless steel spring that slips in place with the flap in the fully down position. (Eckler's has them)

I agree with the quick fix spring,

but if you must remove the door handle, I've found that the door latch mechanism needs to be loosened to get access. You don't need to remove from car, but take the screws out and let it drop down to gain access to the rear nut.

The spring that broke is not in the top flap portion you push down. It is the spring connected to the bottom of the door handle assembly. Inside the door panel. I am familiar with the "quick fix" spring. I still appreciate the responses. Frank & Paula Lowery.

Frank, I don't know if your 69 has those anti-theft shields around the handle/latch/lock mechanism like the later C3's, but if it does, those have to come out also. On my 75 convertible, I had to loosen the latch assy, and if I recall, also remove teh rear window bolt and move the rear of the window up to get access to the handle bolts. Seems like when I reassembled I didn't have to fool with the window, but I've slept a few times since. I do remember that it's a real PITA.

              When dropping the anti-theft pocket...

a good trick is to thread a piece of string, fishing line, wire to it and let it drop to the bottom of the door while you work on the handle. This way you can easily recover it instead of having to remove extra access panels and search for it when you go to button things up!
