Regarding the emergency brake slide seal. Is it necessary to cut it in the middle to get it around the parking brake handle or is there some trick where you would not have to cut it.

Re: Emergency Brake Slide Seal
I do not believe there is any way to get this around the handle without cutting the piece. The one I ordered came pre cut. The plastic is to hard to heat up to make it flexible and you would be looking at a heck of a project to remove the handle from the support. Lastly, the black handle is not easily removed. I believe we are stuck with the cut in the plastic.
How were they installed on the assembly line?

Re: Emergency Brake Slide Seal
I have had several NOS slides and ALL were cut. I suppose you could take a hacksaw and hack the handle off, then weld it back on. BUT that doesn't seem too productive.
If anybody else has some foolproof way of installing them without the cut please come forward. I need to laugh today!

Re: Emergency Brake Slide Seal
I have 11 of these, new in the GM package, and all have the slice. I don't think I've ever seen one without it. If there is such a thing, it must have been a mistake in at the part source.- Top

Re: Emergency Brake Slide Seal
I just received one sans cut (see pic). I don't know if it was age but the one that was in the car was starting to make a right turn so I didn't want to cut the new one. Thanks to someone who emailed me to say he got his on without cutting, I was actually able to do the same.- Top

Re: Emergency Brake Slide Seal
Charles-----
ALL original seals had a slit in them for installation. No exceptions, at all. This included all seals used in PRODUCTION and all seals sold by GM in SERVICE, perhaps, to this very day.
However, some of the reproduction seals and/or current GM are not slit. That's left for the customer to do. Here's why: the 1967-only seal was shorter than the 68-82 AND was slit on the RIGHT side. This seal, GM #3901995, was discontinued in February, 1985 and replaced by GM #333605. The GM #333605 is the 73-82 seal which became SERVICE for all 67-82 Corvettes. This seal is longer and slit on the LEFT side. At least, it was. It may be that it's now made without a slit.
In any event, this seal and/or current reproductions are made without a slit so that folks interested in completely original configuration can use a razor blade to make the slit on the side that's appropriate for their year.
You see, this "side-that-the-slit-is-on" became one of these trendy things that certain judges look for. Thereupon, 1967 owners started scouring the world for NOS examples of the 3901995 seals and paying BIG $$$$ on eBay for them. Just so they could have the correctly "sided" slit. Someone answered the call with the unslit ones. That way, you can have the slit on whichever side you want. Nirvana, no doubt about it. And, all so simple to deliver! Just don't slit the seal and let the customer do it themselves. What an exquisitely simple solution to deal with such a perplexing problem. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Emergency Brake Slide Seal
It actually went down over the pistol grip by working it slowly from side to side. Theses were designed I now know with the cut so you don't have to do that, however my old one seemed to be turning and bending at about the point of the cut. Therefore I wanted to put it on without cutting it. Oila, it's on in one piece now. Thank's to Frank V. in Minnesota for the email or I wouldn't even have tried it. The one I took a pic of in the first post came from Volunteer Vette Products. Also I have in the past cut things first and consulted later hence I have wasted my share of weather strips, leaf spring spacers, bow seals etc. Grazi!- Top
