    wiper motor for 62

    Hi all

Yet another question. After I installed my wiper motor and wired it in, I tried it.It works ,but when I shut it off, the wiper blades just stop right there. Isn't the motor supposed to bring the wipers down to the bottom of the windsheild when you shut them off? I can't figure this out.Whats wrong? Any help is appreciated.

    John,

You need to adjust the slider on the wiper motor by toying with the cable wire connection until it adjusts to high speed, low speed and park. Very slight adjustments using the cable lock screw and small locking plate will allow you to get the correct settings. I just went through this ordeal. Be patient! Make certain the knob on the instrument cluster is all the way to the left when you start. That will give you park. Then go from there. My re-built '58 motor came set in park. But I still had to adjust the setting. Works like a charm now.

Re: wiper motor for 62 Addendum

If the wiper arms and blades are attached to the shafts, you might try disconnection them when the wipers stop and re-installing lower on the windshield.
Just an after thought. Your settings on the motor may be correct and your arms are mounted incorrectly.

There's a park function inside the motor. Try turning the motor off and on and park by hand - that is, without the cable. This is to determine whether the park function is OK, or whether there's an adjustment problem with the cable.

It's usually an adjustment problem. And that's usually caused by the cable. The operation of the cable gets stiff, and won't move the switch properly.

My car did what yours is doing. My problem was that the cable moved the switch to the "on" position and would get the wipers moving. But when I went to shut them off, the cable could not move the switch all the way to the position that shut them off and parked them. It would only move the switch off the "on" position. This would stop them, but not park them. I had to keep fiddling with it. It works most of the time now. Only time it must work is for my state's yearly inspection.

When mounting the wiper motor, the motor must be in the "park" position; the rectangular piece is at a 45 deg. angle up on the passenger side. Something to check for...
