Can anyone tell me the distinguishing factors between an original '66 day/night mirror and any '67 and beyond day/night mirror?

Re: '66 Day/Night Mirror
Jim -
The '66 day/night mirror has a black rectangular knob (~5/16 X ~1/2") on the bottom to change operations.
Early '67s have a gray rectangular knob (~5/16 X ~1/2") on the bottom and a gray rubber surround around the mirror body. Later '67s have a gray flipper lever (~1" long).
Both mirrors are 8" wide.
Some later GM SERVICE mirrors had the same basic configuration as the later '67 mirror but with a black rubber surround and black fliper lever.

Re: '66 Day/Night Mirror
This post got me looking at the day/night mirror on my 65. It has a gray rectangular knob, but no gray rubber surround. It does not appear that it ever had the rubber surround. So exactly what do I have here?
Thanks!- Top

Re: '66 Day/Night Mirror
Thanks Bill. I removed the mirror and examined it closely, and the entire knob is gray. Though you're probably right that it has just faded to gray over the years. The car is nearly as old as I am, and I'm turning gray too!- Top

Re: '66 Day/Night Mirror
Don - With time the plastic knobs on the original '65 &'66 Guide day/night mirrors begin to have a gray appearance, this is a surface phenomenon possibly fading of the plastic from the sun or some other surface reaction of the plastic material. I have scraped the surface of '65-'66 day/night mirrors with knobs having this gray appearance and the black color appears. I also talked with the folks who restore these mirrors and they say the knobs are definitely black (as noted on the portion of the knob inside the mirror where the sun don't shine).
So, check yours out and I think you'll find you have a black knob and an original '65 day/night mirror. Pete- Top
