    1962 - Console & Instrument Cluster Housing

Can anyone tell me which is the best paint to use when restoring and re-painting a 1962 - Console & Instrument Cluster Housing? The guy who's painting it was going to paint it glossy, but I believe its more a matte or semi gloss.
    Any help will be appreciated.

Actually it looks a lot like gloss, although not highly polished

Perhaps the easiest description is to say it should match the package tray, kick panels, console and other intererior painted hard parts.

            Re: C1 interior painting procedure?

How were these parts painted in production? Were they painted at the source and shipped in, were they painted in the plant in a separate paint line, or run thru the same paint line with the body at the same time?

How did this relate to cars with different exterior/interior colors ?

                greetings,

                  Rob,

Just looked at my maroon 61 with black interior. There are traces of Maroon beneath the black paint on the upper portion of the console. The package tray was on the floor of the passenger side when the exterior paint was shot. The floor underneath where the package tray was placed is mostly clear fiberglass.
Looks like exterior color was sprayed and then the the interior color probably soon after. Assume the dash was sprayed seperately, assemblyed and then installed. Kick panels, center console and package tray sprayed on the line just after exterior paint????? Baking and wet sanding the lacquer exterior would create a mess and wreak havoc with cleanliness required to paint the interior color which translates to lost time on the assmbly line.

As for gloss level of the dash, C1s I've had were all high gloss. Remember an early automotive reviewer describing the glare created by the bright console reflected in the windshield. Shiny was good for sales. Windshield wipers were polished until when, 1964?
