question on paint & gasoline

Not for my c-1 but I thought some of you could help. I am preparing to paint my old harley shovelhead, a friend warned me about using something around the gas cap to prevent the gas from going under the paint. I have done some motorcycles in the past with no problem. I am using acrilic enamel with hardner and clear coat. any suggestions?

What you plan on doing will work just fine as long as you let the clear fully cure before you spill any gas on it.
