    1962 control cables

    Hello

I need some info on the control cables for the Temp. control cable and air inlet cable. Are they both supposed to be covered by a metal jacket?. As I was digging out my parts, I noticed one cable has a black plastic sheathing over it and the other has the metal. Are they both supposed to be metal? The knobs are attached to both cables. Is it possible the plastic one is a replacement? I want to make sure I put in the right ones.

    Thanks...John

    Re: 1962 control cables

On my '62, both were covered with a metal wire wrap. I've never seen one with black plastic sheathing. Although that sounds like it would be superior to the wire wrapped ones. I'm 90% sure the ones in my car were original.

While these are out of the car, try to lubricate them. I hung mine from a beam so that they were vertical. Every day, I put some light oil on the top wire. After a few days or weeks, the oil came out the bottom. They work real nice now. I didn't want to oil the outside and hope some got inside because I didn't want it attracting dirt.

...additional black plastic wrap on top of the wire wrap. Dunno why, but it does. Will check tomorrow which one, if that helps.

          Hi Dennis

Thanks for your input. If you find out for sure and which cable goes where, I would appreciated it. Like I said earlier, the two cables I have, one is just wire wrapped and the other has black plastic over it. I believe these are the originals. These parts were all in boxes as were many others that I have. I've been trying to figure out where they go and if there for a corvette.

          Thanks........John

I just went out and looked on my 60. Both cables are wire wrapped but the cable going to the heater control valve (temp.) has a very thin coating of a black plastic/rubber on it. Unless my cables were replaced within the first couple years of production, they are the original ones that the car was built with. Hope this helps. Jim

One of the control cables also serves as the ground for the heater blower motor; probably the one without the plastic sheath on it.

                Thanks guy's

I just found out that the cable going to the temperature control is supposed to be with the black sheathing on it. Thats original. The other 2 cables ( air control & heater control switch ) are with just the metal sheathing.

                Thanks for your input......John
