1978 Pace Car Decals (A Car with 12 miles)

There is a '78 pace car for sale on ebay with 12 miles. (See Link)

What was the reason the factory didn't install the Indy 500 decals on the sides of these cars? The factory place them in a box inside the car for the dealer to install. Why?
    Thanks for the info..

    Ken -

Because the overwhelming majority of customers didn't want the decals on their cars; the choice was left up to the customer.

The clamp you questioned looks original to me.

Clem, If your friend got a '78 Pace Car with around 12 miles for the window sticker price, ($13,300) He got a hell of a deal. They are going for at least double that price. (With that mileage and condition.)

              Bob,
If I'm not mistaken didn't GM still use tower clamps?

Ken The clamp is the correct style and looks like it has the Shurtite logo to me allthough the extra worm metal looks too long. No tower clamps on 78 radiator hoses. Lyle

when they came out the dealership was running them thru the car auction and getting $20K for them. these were just like the ZR-1s,mrs clem wrote a deal for $25K over sticker on the first one they had. that guy today would be lucky to get the $25K for it. he bought the 78 pace car for a daily driver. the L-82 4 speeds bring more is guess because of the low numbers made

As Lyle points out Sure-Tites were used in 78 and in fact used from Sep 69 through the end of production for radiator hose applications. The factory changed to Sure-Tite radiator hose application early 78. Prior to that Towers were used for heater hose applications and shut-off valve applications. However, I've probably seen them used most frequently on the metal hose used for Thermac air cleaner to exhaust manifold for preheated air (78).
