    New Engine Storage

I picked up my freshly rebuilt 327/300 just before Christmas with the intent of doing and engine swap in the early Spring. Well, as life goes so do priorities and here it is June and nothing has been done. I am now thinking I won't get to it until Fall. Is there anything I should be doing in the mean time? It is bone dry except for assembly lub. Should I rotate the internals occasionally? What harm is being done by just sitting?

As always, thanks for you comments.

I don't think that they'll be any problem, at all, in the time frame you're talking about.

      Hi Ed.

When I got my 327 engine back from rebuild, I went alittle further. I put oil in it and a filter.I made a rod about 16" long and ground one end so it would fit in the oil pump slot like the distributor does. Then I put it in a drill and rotated it for about 1 minute. This pumps oil through the engine. I was doing this a couple times a week. Also I kept a plastic garbage bag wrapped around it while in storage. I even squirted a little oil in the combustion chamber and put in spark plugs to keep from rusting. Also I put tape over the intake where the carburator sits and over the exhaust holes. After I installed my engine and started it. It smoked for a minute from the oil I put in the combustion camber. It runs great.

      Good luck....John

tape over all the openings because critters like to crawl into opening.
