    Geoffrey-----

Yup. That's exactly how it is (not about the pigs, though; that's a false rumor). And, it goes to demonstrate just how much oversight that GM exercises over this whole "GM Restoration Parts" thing. GM Restoration Parts is merely a marketing thing; it has nothing to do with the issue of "authenticity" of parts or their conforming to the original specifications. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. "It all depends".

I believe that GM's original INTENT was for the program to ensure that parts sold under the GMRP license would be the same as the original parts in every possible way. Indeed, that would have been a value TO THE CUSTOMER. However, GM "delegated" the operation of the program to an outside entity. The outside entity is not even, strictly speaking, an automotive organization. From what I've seen, they're guys who wear gold chains, gold Rolex watches and Gucci loafers. You KNOW what happens then, don't you?

So, the GM Restoration Parts Program, as currently constituted and in my opinion, has value for GM, has value for the administering outside entity, possibly has some value from a marketing perspective for licensed vendors, but absolutely NO value for the customer. Ain't that how it usually works out?

With regard to the two sources you mentioned in another discussion, i.e. Image and Semersheim: I have used both on my personal cars as well as on customers cars. Both are excellent sources for quality match molded or press molded or similar referenced fiberglass reproductions that are smooth on both inner and outer surfaces. Neither has ever produced a volume of complaints that could be attributed to quality or workmanship.

Your determining factor will most likely be price, delivery and customer service and whether a gel coat is needed.

PS This experience is based upon purchasing 2,275 individual MM or PM pieces from these two sources over the years. Microsoft Excel is wonderful for grabbing data by the strands.
