75 strut rod- replace or repair?

    Hello all,

I'm in the process of restoring (frame off) my car to NCRS specs. I just discovered that one of the strut rods is bent. Where can I get the bent rod straightened? Who's the best source for a new one? Am I better off replacing it or repairing it? I don't have a preference as long as it matches the other one and meets NCRS specs.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

    Eric

    Eric-----

The original strut rods used on your car in PRODUCTION were GM #348391. This rod was also available in SERVICE until July, 1980 when it was discontinued and replaced by GM #459076. That rod continues to be available from GM in SERVICE to this very day for a current GM list price of $93.69. The 459076 is absolutely indiscernable from the 348391. I've always wondered what the difference was but, after studying these pieces, I've never been able to see any visual differences.

I would not bother trying to straighten a bent rod when you can still get a new rod from GM that's just like the original.

        Joe,

Thanks for the information. It's nice to know that you looked them over and couldn't see a difference. I too would rather have a new strut rather than a "repaired" one.

I contacted my local Chevrolet dealer and ordered a new strut; it cost me $75.00.

        Thanks again Joe.
