What's the best way to make the curved metal piece at the top of a repo door panel fit the flat part across the top of the door on '59? Do you really have to whack it into shape? Why didn't they make it straight to begin with?? They made the lower part straight when it should be curved and the top piece of metal curved when it should be straight. What's with these wacko-crazy manufacturers anyway? Sorry....I'm just frustrated....

Re: C1 - '59 Door panel fit
I have no idea.....I bought mine from him several years ago and they've been properly stored until my resto caught up with the need. You say your's are the "new door panels" ? Then they are most likely different.....that would be MY luck !- Top

Re: C1 - '59 Door panel fit
The top piece of the door panel should have a curve to it--that's the way every original was. It's higher at the front where it fastens next to the door post, and has a gentle curve down to the rear where it fastens to the rear inside of the door.- Top

Re: C1 - '59 Door panel fit
What you are refering to Mike, is a curve in the vertical plane. What I was refering to is a curve in the horizontal plane. I can lay a straightedge along the top of my door and it is staight. Lay it along the door panel and there is fairly large curve (about 5/8") built into the very stiff metal from the very front of the door post to the very rear of the door. To straighten it would require reshaping the metal piece and beating it severely. I don't think you can do it with the panel pre-assembled (with the vinyl on it). I would have to dis-assemble the door panel. But....that's probably what I will have to do!- Top
