    C 1 Deck Lid

I replaced the decklid weatherstrip on my '58. Now the decklid won't close tight enough. I have a 1/4 inch gap between the lid and the console between the seats. The stainless trim on the decklid does not line up properly with the hardtop receivers. Everything was OK before the new weatherstrip. Any hints on how to get these areas properly lined? I installed the proper "58 seal. The old seal was the hollow type.

Let it sit out in the sun for a couple of days. It takes the ws a litle while to "mold" to the new contours.

Thanks, Ed! I put the weatherstrip in early last fall and worked at reassembling the car until late November inside my garage. No sun to help it "mold." It went into cold storage after that. I'll give it a chance to "mold" once it warms up. I'm in Maine, and we have had the coldest and wettest weather this May that I can remember. If this doesn't work, I'll be back for further info.

Also to help it mould to the proper fit put a weight on the Deck while in the sun.

          Gary,

What type of weight, how much and were? There are three points that don't align. Right left and center. Do I put the weight across the center of the deck?
Sorry about the requested detail, but, I don't want to go back to the hollow weatherstrip that worked. Might be an option since the car will never be judged by NCRS in my life time. Just want it to look correct. After almost five years, I want to take it to a local show and shine and feel comfortable with no finger pointers. Thanks to all!

I used 3 small sandbags made up from old socks.

              Now that's innovative! Thanks Gary!

The deck lid weatherstripping that has molded ends and three ribs, Be sure to push back the molded ends and tape them tight with the lid during setting of the adhesive to provide proper fit with the body.
