    300 1969 Corvette 300hp had an LT1 hood

Just heard it on eBay, so it must be true.

Hi nice car --just so you know the bb hood could be the origional hood --due to the parts strike in 69 approx 300 vetts that were to recieve the LT-1 engine were to have this hood also the motors were held up in the strike not to show up till 70 after the strike so those approx 300 vetts got the base engine (300) hp --i also have one of these cars from the origional owner and got this info from him--don't know if it's important --just so you know --Glenn

Isn't that the same year they put the Oldsmobile hub caps and the Buick rear view mirrors on the 'vettes?

Yeah...And the body panels were hand-formed like them eyetalian sports cars.

The old guys at Flint used soft hammers and sandbags to work the skins off war surplus B-26s. However, the rivet holes were a problem, and they used a new fangled plastic resin to fill them. After a bit, about 1953, they discovered it was just easier to make the WHOLE CAR out of the resin using glass fiber cloth for reinforcement. The rest, as they say, is history.

You could get a 427 hood on a small block car in 69 or at least we got 11 of them. Didn't even have to put copo on the order just told Joe Pike that is the way we wanted them. Ordered 1 more later on and wrote 427 hood on the order and that is the way it came. No charge by the way. I still have the invoices for those cars.

Loren, this is exactly why I NEVER say NEVER and it is a very small percentage of what went on via the dealers. Engineering, Sales and Marketing, Styling-----actually almost anyone within GM was capable of ordering "special" cars that could never, oops there I said it!, be documented.

                  Hey GL,

I don't think the Merry Men are buying your story. I do, but nobody else is admitting it. Page 2...............

You are probably right, some might not believe it even if they were standing there when the picture was taken at the factory when we picked them up. I have that pic somewhere. The small block cars didn't have the 427 emblems on the hoods like the big block cars did. Oh and those 2 punk kids in the pic would be my twin brother and I picking up our Silver 400HP car in line with all those Riverside Gold cars. We also picked up a Monoco Orange car and a Yellow 435 hp car at the same time but they are not in the pic. And if you don't believe me dare I say call John Amgwert he knows the story. GL

Re: GL, it's only Monday, so you should be

When looking at GM literature, the statement almost always says "recommended combination", or "recommended equipment" or something similar. That leaves a lot of room for things not being as the rules say they should be.

It is rather rare for something to say "this way only".

There are even examples of the cars in primer or "special colors", and yet I don't think I've ever seen a brochure saying "you can have it in red, yellow, white, ... , or primer." So even having factory paint was apparently not mandatory.

Unfortunately, for all the good the Genuine Black Book and the NCRS Specification Guides have been, they seem to have removed for simplicity and space all the conditions of many options.

No factory paint wasn't mandatory. One of my Frat bros ordered a 65 396 convet in primer and we painted it a dark blue green color. Neat car had KOs and almost every performance option. Also people still can't believe we sold purple with red interior 62s painted that way from the factory. Or 60s painted Buick Wedgewood blue with white coves and factory off road exhaust h pipe and all with base engine and at. GL

                          ahh, you cursed person, you.

Do you realize the pain and suffering you may have caused to many trying to restore their cars today?

"Honest, it came from the factory just like this!"

Yea like radio shielding but no radio etc. The number of one offs and special cars will never be known but it makes it fun. GL

                              The Sad Part is

that many of these one-off or special cars were destroyed by restorers restoring them to the "rules".

To truly learn, judging should not really be judging, but data-gathering, and done before anyone does any restorarion.
