    spiral shock #s

Can anyone tell me the numbers for the front of a 1958 spiral shock. I only have the #s for the rear spirals, is it because they are the same numbers. Thank you in advance.

The front and rear shocks for a 1958 Corvette are definitely NOT the same. I don't have the PRODUCTION part number for the front shocks used for 1958 Corvettes handy. However, that number should be in the front suspension section of your 1958 AIM.

      Thanks Joe,
Have you heard of Hollanders interchange manual ? I have located a pair of Delco NOS front sprial shocks. I haven't been able to speak to the seller, so it gives me the weekend to find out any info. Is this Hollanders manual an accurate book, as far as giving the right applications. They were sold to me as Corvette front spirals. I don't need them, but I have been buying everything NOS for my car. I would never ground up restore my car, it is in that good condition. But when it comes time to replace parts or do a rolling resoration, I want all the real parts. Thank you Joe, you are truly a great help to everyone in the NCRS.
Have a great Memorial day weekend !

Hollander's is know as the 'bible' of the scrap yard business, Deb. Their interchange listings consist of parts known to fit/function like the factory originals (sometimes with a big hammer modification!) and they are NOT a good reference for what the factory originally installed.

The spiral shocks used on your '58 are nicely called out in the '58-60 JG book. Standard suspension used PN 5520278 and HD suspension used PN 5532410. Bear in mind, that's the PN that's embossed on the shock itself. Service replacement shocks were packaged in a 'kit' form with mounting washers/nuts, Etc. so what's on the box/in the book for service will have a different PN representing the 'kit' instead of the individual shock...

Yes, I've know of Hollanders Manual and it's an accurate source. However, as Jack says, its purpose is to provide information regarding parts INTERCHANGE from a FUNCTIONAL perspective ONLY. "Originality" or "correctness" is not part of their equation, at all. Still, much useful information can be gleaned from Hollanders.

As Jack also mentions, the shock part numbers found on the shocks are, in virtually all cases, different than the SERVICE part numbers found on the shock boxes. So, if you have shocks in boxes, the numbers on the box will not be the same as the numbers provided in the AIM or found on the shocks. However, the numbers stamped on the shocks in the box could very well be the same as the numbers shown in the AIM. If you provide the numbers on the BOXES, I may be able to tell you what they are. I assumed that the numbers you provided previously were the numbers stamped on the shocks, themselves. If they were actually the numbers on the boxes, let us know.

The shocks are coming with the nuts, washers & in the Delco boxes. If I understand what you are saying, I may be getting the correct replacements. I don't need them yet, but I want to get all maintenence parts that I may need in the future. I also asked the seller if he has the rear shocks as well. Thanks for all your info. I just hope I am doing the right thing for the car. I will keep you posted as to what #s the seller provides. We figured we would touch base after the holiday weekend, but I will call in the morning & hope they are open.
