I have a 1969 427/390 Convertible (ps/pb/4-spd/no-AC/tilt-tele/alarm), which I've owned for about 20 years, that is mostly original (block/intake manifold/exhaust manifolds/A.I.R equipment/distributor/transmission/rear end/jack/etc.). I'm thinking about finally having it judged.
After examining the second edition of the NCRS 1968-69 Judging manual that I have in detail, the parts that I know that are not original and won't pass judging without deduction, most of which I replaced in the mid to late 80's when I wasn't thinking about NCRS judging standards, are the windshield, the diverter valve, the alternator, the carburetor, the ignition switch and door locks, and the convertible top. Also, the UA6 alarm has never been functional since I have owned the vehicle.
The question I have is should I try to restore these items with used original pieces and get the alarm operational before haveing the vehicle judged, or should I just have the vehicle judged the way it's currently configured with the replacment parts in place and the non operation alarm? My impression is that some, if not all, of these parts are difficult to find in original condition, and are expensive if one can even find them, and may not be worth the cost versus the judging points lost without them.
Any thoughts by those who have had judging experience would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve Nelson
