has anyone used the repo fan belts on a LS-5 with AC/PS ect an had good luck with them fiting? I bought some years ago when they first came on the market, an I could not get one to fit from a set. they said Oh your pulleys are wrong. they are correct, hell I have a hard time with the after market over the counter belts fitting, from the book. from gates ect.. has any one found a good source for those cars?

Re: Repo fan belts 71 LS-5
Lyndon I ordered a complete set of reproduction belts for my
74 LS4 and everything fit except the alternator belt, it wasn't close, supplier said that due to changes on the production line that some belt lengths may vary, I ended up measuring the total distance between pulleys with a metal tape and ordered what the book said was a '73 BB alternator belt, worked great. Quanta Products makes most if not all of these belts and they are great to deal with. Take a look at www.quantaproducts.com/home.asp
Good luck;

My experience...
'71 SB A/C was the belts fit as advertized WHEN the car was equipped with factory original pulleys and correct brackets (AC compressor & alternator). BUT, for a driver application (I've got over 60K miles now), they didn't last worth a damn. In a year and a half of driving, all but one of the belts failed with one that I replaced breaking again. So, I put on Dr. Rebuild, die cut belts with GM PN silk screened on vs. 'correct' cloth wrapped reproduction belts and the durability problem vanished with only minor loss of points on the judging field....- Top

Jack-----
GM didn't change to the "cut" construction belts for 1973 PRODUCTION and all earlier SERVICE because the "wrapped" belts worked just as good. This is another case of earlier model cars being FUNCTIONALLY improved via the use of GM-updated parts. "Wrapped" construction is to belts as bias ply construction is to tires. If one thinks that "wrapped" construction belts are as good as "cut", then one should be just as happy driving on bias ply tires as radials.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
