C1 fan spacer

Was a spacer used between the 4 blade fan and the WP pulley in 1959? What benefit would the spacer add? Thanks again. Pat G.

Yes there was. The idea is to have the fan blade at the outer edge of the fan shroud for most efficient air flow and cooling.

My 59 had a spacer behind the fan before my rebuild. However, I read somewhere that a spacer was not installed on 59's, but rather was included on the 60 model to aid cooling. Naturally, I will add the spacer back if I'm incorrect, but would like some additional expert opinions.

While I'm certainly not an expert, I'll throw in my .02. The 59 fan shroud is alot different than the 60. The top of it is several inches thicker so the 59 didn't use a spacer. The spacer was used on the 60's that didn't have the temp. controlled fan. The fan should be flush with the opening of the fan shroud.

Spacer was not used in 59. They started using them in 60.

Thanks for correcting me. I strayed too far from 61-62, didn't I? You're right on--no spacer with the deeper fan shroud through 59--spacer in 60, clutch fan (automatically spaced) in 61-62.
