Cleaning a C-3 79 Alum Intake

I am looking for the best way to restore an aluminum intake besides the normal grease and grim it looks like it was painted. I don't think it came that way from the factory. Can anyone shed some light on these questions?

I had a 79 L-82 my first corvette. It has been so long but I dont recall all of the engine deatils, it might even have been black. you can use a product called naval jelly for aluminum. be sure that you get the one for aluminum.
I will check an see if I have some pics of my old car. it should tell you in the JM about the engine paint. the more I think about the intake I think it was black, are was it dark blue. I am sure some one will know.
