C-3, alternator pulley 454

1970 454 with AC and PS.
I discovered that I don't have the original and correct alternator pulley for my 454. It has a double groove instead of the single groove. How hard are originals to come by? I called John Pirkle that says he has original fans but the pulleys are machined and are NCRS accepted. Barring any miracles that I find one at a swap meet I am going to go with John.

I have seen a few of them on ebay. I don't know if these things had casting numbers on them or not but that is one place I would look at to varify the originality of the item. The item number would be listed in an assembly manual. I have one for a '72 but not the '70.

You can probably do better buying it from Pirkle than you will going to a swap meet, buying one, and then having it plated.

I found one in a core pile at an old junkyard, bought the alternator (not Corvette) for $10.

I love hearing success stories like that. I tell people all the time that to get parts they want they need to be persistent and pursue all avenues at their disposal. I go to a lot of swap meets and love digging through boxes under the sellers tables or in their piles of parts on their trailers. Ebay has been a boon for me. Some with Hemmings. None on the DriveLine as most want more than I will logically pay. I quit junk yards due to the hazards.
