In the 65 NCRS judging manual/guide it states that the steel outlet linesw attach directly to the master cylinder without any adapters. It goes on to state that the 66 J-50 had the adapters. In Noland's Tech Guide (63-67, page 272) it says just the opposite. My 65 with Power brakes has the adapters. I recieved a deduct at flight judging. Which reference is correct? Thanks for the help, Bob

Re: 65&66 Master Cylinder/Power Brakes
'65 Master cyl is unique to '65 without adapters. uses small line fittings directly into the Master cyl. Same with '66 except larger master cyl inlets and corresponding fittings on the lines. Service replacement for all was '66 unit creating some use of adapters. Possible exception would be '65 or 66 last or first week of production.- Top

Re: '65 vs'66 Master Cyl. & lines
Bob --- Noland is wrong on this one, but then he wrote it 13 years ago; no '65 power brake master cylinders had brake line adapters (reducers). The judge was right to deduct on your car, as adapters signal a master cyl. replacement for the 1/4" '66 lines. Now there is supposed to have been a late '65 increase in diameter of J50 brake lines (from 3/16" to 1/4"). I had a '65 # S112555 that still had the small lines, so the change must have been later than that. [Others please respond] This late '65 change is mentioned in the GM parts book, as well as by the majority of Corvette catalog replacement parts suppliers. However, to my knowledge, only Long Island, Vette Brakes and Dr.Vette show that the front-to-rear 1/4" line for late '65s is NOT the same configuration as the 1/4" line for '66 J50 cars; the routing moved off the top of the frame rail for '66 and later. Obviously, if there were no 1/4" power brake '65s, there would be no demand for this unique brake line.
On standard brake '65s, I can confirm that the 3/16" front-to-rear line carried through to the end of production.
My reading of the 3rd edition of the '65 Tech Manual is that all the '66 J50 cars had 1/4" lines (WITHOUT adapters, as the master cylinder outlet holes had increased to 7/16" thread fitting). Others would have to confirm how the '66 manual reads.- Top
