I am going to be replacing my clutch pedal my other one broke off so no problem to remove the old one. I have my new clutch pedal and am about to put it back together and I could not get it to go into the hole without hitting the body first. Before I go any further I need some help. I have not worked with it very much yet since I am still waiting on additional parts to arrive. It just looks like I may have additional work to do. I have not removed anything except the shifter rod for the clutch and brake pedal and its parts. Thanks in advance.

You have to remove the brake pedal support assembly from the car in order to install the new clutch pedal/shaft unit; it can't be installed (as you discovered) with the pedal support assembly in the car. Remove the steering column and the pedal support assembly comes out next after removing the four nuts on the engine side of the firewall (two of which are on the master cylinder), the bolts attaching the pedal support to the bottom of the dash brace, and disconnecting the brake pushrod from the brake pedal (and the harness connection to the brake light switch). Good opportunity while it's out to replace and lube the four plastic bushings for the clutch shaft and the brake pedal pivot so your new clutch pedal/shaft doesn't squeak/groan.- Top
