Can anyone recommend a set to use on a driver ? I will be using original ignition shielding. Also.. should the fuel pump be painted ?

    Thanks

AC Delco 508N for my 72. This is as good as you will find out there for a replacement set. The wires are the correct length for fitting under your shielding and they are available at Advance Auto, Auto Zone, etc.

I use Moroso Blue Max spiral core custom manufactured and length cut for my 1968, 1970, and even my 1985. These wires fit with no problems and have factory molded terminal ends, no cutting fabrication needed by owner. The oldest set is on the 68, about 18 years ago, no problems. Noticed another poster showing a picture of his 6 quart oil pan engine hanging on a hoist to be installed on in his C2. He already had the Moroso wires on it. Where the wires go through the motor mounts, run the distributer end through the top of the motor mount not the spark plug connector end first.

          I guess that would help... it's a '71 350/270hp.

Just about any name-brand wire set will be fine. I prefer ONLY the type that are fully assembled out-of-the-box and NOT the type that you have to cut-to-length and install the distributor ends yourself. I use Delco, but premium wire sets like the Moroso that Jim mentioned or Accel are outstanding, too.

No paint, at all, is to be used on the fuel pump. It's "natural", as manufactured finishes (natural aluminum top, zinc plated with irridite overplate for the bottom section).
