    Judging ??

The seat belt question I posted earlier has me wondering about how an item is judged if there is a discrepancy or omission in the TIM&JG.

If the TIM&JG states that only a large triangular anchor plate was used on '66 cars yet the small plate was used on late cars and that information is not in the TIM&JG how does it get judged? Do the judges follow the manual strictly and deduct points or are they aware of these omissions and give full credit.

Is it the responsibility of the car owner to bring these issues up if there is a question at the time of judging?

    Thanks,

    Ian

    Re: Judging ??

    Ian ,

I have noticed several incorect Items in th JG with respect to seat belts.
It appears to me that the discriptions are mostly of the Air Chute Buckles and not the Hammils.

You have pointed out one of them. Another is the discription of the tag... "Tags are stitched onto the belts with white thread on the tag side and colored thread matching the webbing on the opposite fabric side".... Again ,maybe on the Air Chutes , but not on the Hamills.

As to whats to be done I can not say .I pointed out these errors earlier on this forum , but got no responses from any team leaders so it is my intention to make notes on all the discrepancies I find throughout my restoration and turn them over to those concerned when finished.

As to how they will be judged ....I suspect that most Judges are ahead of our current JG ...as alot of the folks who post here are.

So in closing , As One who knows what you are going through because I am in the same position ,all I can say is use the JG as just that "A guide" ,but post your questions here when you come across something that does'nt seem to fit with what you find on your car .AS I have said before ,I have found this Post invaluable, and I am amazed at the amount of knowledge and talent that is out there. Its the next best thing to moving next door to a Team Leader !

      Re: Judging ??

Jim's on the money here! When Roy Sinor took office, the first thing he did was change the title of our books from 'Judging Manual' to 'Judging Guide' to emphasize the fact the books are SUPPLEMENTS to the judge's individual knowledge and not the be all/end all ultimate authority of what's 'right/wrong' or a 'recepie' for how to correctly restore each and every Corvette.

I can guarantee you, there will be BOTH errors of omission and errors of commission during Flight judging. But, the probability that such errors will amount to a significant difference in judging outcome (move a car from one award category to another) is virtually nill.

The 'correct' mindset to have on the judging field is to remember the judges are your fellow club members donating their time to HELP you EARN your award. As such, they're human and there WILL be a hiccup here/there.

Those with lower experience levels will tend to read/follow the 'book' more closely than those who've been there/done that quite often. First, do NOT accept everything you hear as Gospel! Take the information as simply an input to study, question and WHEN you're CONVINCED the input(s) are right, then decide whether or not you want to change the car.

Also, do NOT be afraid to question a given call with the judges. You HAVE the right of appeal, and if you've got a convincing story to tell you just might find a given judgement call is changed/over-ruled in your favor. BUT, be patient and courteous during the appeal process...that's the key!

Also, don't assume that because an issue that's been discussed/researched here on the board appears to have found favor as being correct in opposition to what's printed in the JG that it will get picked up for followup by the National Team Leader for that grouping. The only proper way to deal with issues of that type is to thoroughly document what you have found and submit it to the responsible National Team Leader for that JG Revision Team's consideration; if it isn't brought to the Team Leader's personal attention, it's just another comment on the board and will evaporate into history.

I fiqured it took something like that.So rather then dribble them in as they come up, as I said, I will make notes on all that I find and turn them in at the end.
          Thanks John .
